University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University and Falling Walls Foundation organize Falling Walls Lab Turku, an innovation contest for young academics, entrepeneurs and experts under the age of 35. The qualifying Lab will be held on August 10, 2015 at the Sibelius museum, Turku. The Falling Walls Lab is a platform for professionals from all disciplines who get the opportunity to present their research work, business model or innovative project or idea.
Each participant of the Lab only has 3 minutes to share their idea in front of the distinguished jury from academia and business. The call for applications is open for outstanding young talents and innovative thinkers from all disciplines around Finland, Nordic and Baltic countries. This year the organizers of the Turku Lab offer participants outside Turku a chance to apply for a travel grant.
– Falling Walls Lab Turku offers young academics an exellent possibility to share their ideas in multidisciplinar level. After a successful kick-off with the Turku Lab in 2014 we wanted to continue to offer young academics this unique possibility for international experience and contacts, says Ruth Illman, director of the Donner Institute for religious and cultural history research. Illman is part of the organization committee for Aboagora symposium, that is organizing the Lab in Turku.
Falling Walls Labs take place globally throughout the year. The winners of each international Falling Walls Lab qualify for the Falling Walls Lab Finale in Berlin, which is held every year on 8 November and is closely connected to the annual and international renowned Falling Walls Conference, taking place on 9 November.
– The competition challenged me to think how to present my research shortly, yet in a popular manner. The Lab also gave me a chance to experience the excited and distinguished atmosphere at the finale in Berlin, says Eric Malmi, Falling Walls Lab Turku Winner 2014. In November three winning candidates, Vilja Siitonen and Veli-Matti Karhulahti with Eric Malmi, travelled to Berlin to represent the universities of Turku and share their ideas among 97 other candidates.
The Falling Walls Lab Turku takes place on 10 of August 2015 at Sibelius Museum, Turku Finland, starting at 11 am. The most intriguing presenter will qualify directly for the Falling Walls Lab Finale in Berlin. Applications can be made through the website www.falling-walls.com/lab/apply by 15 of May 2015.
